Meet the team behind The Gold Advisor
Peter Krauth is a former portfolio adviser and a 20-year veteran of the resource market, with special expertise in precious metals and mining. Peter writes about what he is buying and selling. He has contributed numerous articles to Kitco.com, BNN Bloomberg, the Financial Post, Seeking Alpha, Streetwise Reports, and Investing.com, and is a frequent speaker and moderator at mining conferences. He holds a Master of Business Administration from McGill University.
The Silver Stock Investor and Silver Advisor newsletters are Peter’s key contributions to the The Gold Advisor world. Silver is a world unto itself, with its own equity metrics, macro forces, and dedicated investors. Silver also usually outperforms gold in a bull market. For all those reasons, silver deserves its own newsletter – and until until Silver Stock Investor no such newsletter existed! Peter covers the whole silver spectrum, from physical to major miners to junior explorers. You can follow Peter on X (formerly Twitter).
Jeff Valks’ passion for investing started while working as a radio update anchor for Canada’s preeminent sports station, TSN in 2011. Late one Friday night, he muted his mic after his last update of the evening, when it occurred to him that if he focused on stock markets as much as he focused on sports statistics the results were more likely to benefit his future.
Studying capital markets was an instant love affair for Jeff. While his friends partied on weekends, he was knee-deep in research. In 2012 he began making his own trades, catching the likes of Tesla and Facebook at a time when analysts were bearish about the future juggernauts.
His success paved the way to become the Director of Content for dividend.com, ETFdb.com, and TraderHQ.com. In late 2018 he built his own course on the basics of money management and investing, which he still teaches today at the community college level.
He’s still big on baseball statistics and he’s quick to point out that Ty Cobb mixed sports with investing quite brilliantly. In fact, it was after reading about Cobb’s successful investment in a copper mine that led Jeff to investigate the riches of pay dirt — which is what brings him home to The Gold Advisor.
Ted Butler is an independent analyst who writes at the intersection of metals, mining, and macroeconomics. After graduating with a BA in International Business from the University of Liverpool in 2022, he began a master’s in finance — but withdrew, disillusioned by the thoughtless promotion of 60/40 portfolios and the omission of gold and silver from the curriculum.
Sacrificing a more lucrative career as a financial advisor, Ted’s moral compass beckoned him to carve out his own niche as a sound money advocate, as he asked himself: How can a financial advisor, whose job is to manage a client’s assets, fulfil their fiduciary obligation without allocating to the very asset that has been money for 5000 years, i.e. gold and silver?
In 2023, the strength of this conviction guided Ted to The Morgan Report, where he became an analyst who regularly penned articles about precious metals, geopolitics, and de-dollarisation. At the same time, Ted’s passion for sound money resonated with Ronnie Stöferle – author of the In Gold We Trust report, where he has written the annual silver chapter for 3 years and counting. Ted now contributes as a Senior Analyst for The Silver Advisor and The Gold Advisor.
During this time, Ted has spoken at conferences across the globe, received interviews from the likes of Daniela Cambone, and visited mines, including that of Silver Advisor holding, Outcrop Silver. Now based in Latin America, Ted brings boots-on-the-ground insight to Silver Advisor, where he works closely and diligently with Peter Krauth to analyse the full silver spectrum.”
